Here is the President memo: April 2007

To all NRAD members/Deaf Racquetball players,

As NRAD President, it is my regret to inform you, as a racquetball player that 2008 NRAD Tournament at Salt Lake City, UT is forced to be canceled due to low participants.  This would be the first time for NRAD to host a national-level tournament at this attractive place, but unfortunately it did not work out.  Jon Hodson, Chair did a wonderful job with the tournament plan-getting great bargains with an exclusive racquetball club, nice hotel with hot “full” breakfast and the banquet room at Deaf Community Center, as I flew out for one of their clinics at my own expense.  He got SPRINT to become our sole sponsorship and also worked closely with HEAD racquetball organization to help with this year tournament. Many of Utah Deaf people have not played racquetball before and he had been taking clinics for them to prepare for this tournament.  Our officers and board members were thrilled and hoped this tournament would turn out successfully, as many of our players in the past would like to attend new city, instead of going same “old” places for years, like New York/New Jersey, Maryland/Virginia, Los Angeles and Chicago.  That was the main reason, as we did for the players.  Interesting, some players had emailed me, asking me a specific question…”How many players have signed up yet?”   I simply responded to them…”It is too early to say how many players at this moment, as many of them send their entry forms in very last minutes.  If you love playing racquetball, you will be there and give good support for NRAD”.  If those players come anyway, it would save this tournament and encourage new Utah or “Out of State” players to participate our future NRAD tournaments.  Not only that, our present leaders are going to be gone within next couple years, NRAD is going to need new leaders, in order to carry NRAD organization for our future avid racquetball players.  Again, I want to make a special thanks to JON HODSON, as a chair for his wiliness of hosting this year tournament and did well-planned tournament schedule for our players.  Overall, it is the players’ loss, not Jon, as he is a fine leader.

More information will be posted on next President’s memo about 2009 NRAD Tournament at Maryland and 2010 NRAD Tournament at Chicago, IL.

Racquetbally yours,

Jeff Lubman
